Suitability

Is the AAT Level 2 in Accounting Foundation Certificate course suitable for me?

Anyone can enrol on the AAT Accounting Level 2 training course, making it perfect for those looking to start a career in accounting, and those who have little to no experience in the industry.

You will be required to:  

•    Be at least 16 years old (or have the consent of a parent or guardian)
•    Have a solid understanding of the English language
•    Be comfortable with basic mathematics

Additional pathways include progressing onto our AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting Level 3. With this qualification, you can apply for more senior accounting jobs, and gain AATQB status, making you a qualified Bookkeeper. You will be able to use the initials AATQB after your name and can legally run your own Bookkeeping business.

General Accounting Responsibilities

As an Accountant you will be responsible for many different areas of a company’s finances, including: 

•    Preparing financial documents (bills and invoices).
•    Completing purchase orders.
•    Managing payroll.
•    Completing bank reconciliations, and more.

While salaries range by sector and job role, industry averages are between £20,000 and £24,000 a year at this level.   

AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting Syllabus

AAT Level 2 Accounting training will provide you with a basic knowledge of accounting principles and skills. At this level, your knowledge in accounting will start to develop and finance administration is your focus.    

The four units you'll cover through this course, are:

• Unit 1 – Introduction to Bookkeeping
  • Sage Business Cloud
• Unit 2 – Principles of Bookkeeping Controls
• Unit 3 - Principles of Costing
• Unit 4 – The Business Environment

 Average course completion time – 9-12 months

These qualifications will teach you how to process payments and receipts, prepare invoices, complete bank reconciliations, and have the skills required to work effectively in the finance industry.  

The national average pass rate for AAT Level 2 is 85.0%. Our pass rate is 91.2%.  

Exam Prep Sessions - To help students have the best chances of passing their exams, we have developed a series of regular exam preparation sessions.

AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting Exam Details

Your personal AAT tutor will run your live online classes so that you get the benefits of learning in a college class without leaving your home. Live online classes cover revision sessions and practice papers on the units you need to pass your exams.

There are four exams in total - 3 computer-based exams and 1 Synoptic Assessment. 

Exams

• Introduction to Bookkeeping (90 mins)
• Principles of Bookkeeping Controls (90 mins)
• Principles of Costing (90 mins)
• The Business Environment (2 hours)

When you are ready to take your assessments, you need to book your exam at an AAT approved assessment venue. We can help find the closest one to you. Exam fees vary from centre to centre.

Exam fees are not included in the course cost.  

Synoptic Assessments 

Synoptic Assessments are designed to test your understanding of a range of subjects across your AAT qualification. You can take this test most weeks of the year.
